Noah Pozner, 2006-2012
Noah Pozner
November 20, 2006 – December 14, 2012
This photo of Noah makes me smile while some other images of him literally bring me to tears as does typing his birth and death dates. He was the youngest of the Sandy Hook victims. His parents, family and friends loved and cherished this beautiful, blue-eyed, impish, smart, playful child. Who wouldn’t love him?
He and his twin Arielle were best friends
Graduation from kindergarten, the twins were assigned to different rooms for first grade
Probably picked for his mother
Happy sixth birthday Arielle and Noah, November 20, 2012
This photo was taken between November 13 and November 16, 2012 during the Sandy Hook Elementary School’s November 2012 book fair. He was wearing a black Spiderman t-shirt based on the movie Spiderman starring Andrew Garfield which was released in July 2012. [1] The large poster in the background is the Cultivating Character Tree poster, mentioned in the September 6, 2012 Sandy Hook Connection.
Newtown’s Character Tree [2]
You may have noticed this tree on display in our schools and community. One of Newtown Public School’s Strategic Plans is Character Development. An action team was formed to work with families and the community to identify and model character attributes. With input from the schools and community, this Character Tree was developed to represent Newtown’s Core Character Attributes: Perseverance, Citizenship, Caring, Trustworthiness, Respect, and Responsibility. [3]
Noah and the other SHES child victims were innocent, loving, trusting, kind, and honest. They had already met the objectives of the character attributes.
These three sweet children show genuine love for each other. They are happy to be together and excited about the book purchases. Arielle is holding the book Ponyella, and Sophia is holding the paperback version of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever.
Noah was anxious to read the new Ninjago book he purchased the book fair. He was excited about going to a birthday party on Saturday. He was smart, could read well, was rambunctious and got along well with his older siblings, Danielle, Sophia and Michael. Arielle, his best friend who he dearly loved, enjoyed playing together. Noah was curious and liked to figure out how things worked. He loved animals, video games and Nintendo’s Mario Brothers characters. His uncle said, “He would have become a great man, I think. He would have grown up to be a great dad.” [4]

Veronique Pozner waves to the assembled press as she leaves after a funeral service for her son, 6-year-old Noah Pozner, Monday, December 17, 2012, in Fairfield, Connecticut. She gave a eulogy in which she said, ““The sky is crying and the flags are half-mast. It is a sad, sad day. but it’s also your day, Noah, my little man. I’m going to miss your forceful and purposeful little steps stomping through our house. I will miss your perpetual smile, the twinkle in your dark blue eyes, framed by eyelashes that would be the envy of any woman in this room. Most of all, I will miss your visions of your future. You wanted to be a doctor, a soldier and a taco factory manager. “It was your favorite food and no doubt you wanted to ensure the world kept producing tacos.” (AP Photo/Jason DeCrow)
When his mother, a nurse, told Noah that she loved him, he would answer, “Not as much as I love you, Mom.” [5] Noah’s little face is always the last thing Veronique Pozner sees before she goes to sleep. [6]

Dedication of Noah Pozner’s Playground; as angels play there, I am sure that Noah will be there; God bless you, dearest Noah and bless your family!
Every morning, Sandy Hook dad Lenny Pozner opens his sock drawer to get dressed – and there they are. His dead son’s striped pajamas, Batman costume and green flip-flops mixed in with his own fresh laundry. Pozner said, “Every day I open it, and every day he’s sort of present when I go through that ritual. Noah is never far from my mind. I’m always focusing on Noah.” [7]
